The Big Bear Stompers are the flag wavers of the West Coast Traditional Jazz sound exemplified by Lu Watters and Turk Murphy in the San Francisco area of the USA in the 40's. The band was founded by Dave Moorwood and trumpeter Clive Whitlock in 1989 and has been blowing up a storm ever since. The present line up features four front line musicians of great experience and skill and a four strong rhythm section to produce a surging beat.

Personnel: Andy Woon, 1st trumpet, provides a strong lead and is a fine soloist whether with open horn or muted. Tony Davis, 2nd trumpet, notable for his hot Armstrong inspired sound. Chris Gower, trombone, shows great technical ability and feel for the music. Mike Wills, clarinet, soprano sax, wide experience and a peerless performer on both instruments. Perry Lock, piano, an original bear and ideal band pianist, produces lovely blues drenched solos. John Arthy, sousaphone, produces a huge sound and is the foundation of the band. Andy Crisp, drums, another original bear who uses his kit with variety and imagination. Dave Moorwood, banjo, guitar, rock solid player, bandleader, arranger and occasional singer. Judy Eames, vocals, a tuneful and tasteful singer with a repertoire from Blues to Vaudeville.
