Dom Franks Stray Horns

Friday 18th May, 7.30pm – 9.45pm

Gloucester Cathedral Lady Chapel

The quartet was formed in 2010 to showcase the original compositions of Cheltenham-based saxophonist Dom Franks, a former student of Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint, and winner of the Daily Telegraphy Young Jazz Musician competition. The band’s sound is accessible, lyrical but rooted in creative improvisation and hard-driving grooves. Influences include Robert Glasper, Kenny Garrett, Kneebody, Joe Lovano, as well as Vaughan Williams and Afrobeat.

Check out the band’s newly launched third album Living With Spooks. The line-up… guest pianist John Law, Billy Weir (recent winner of the Tony Levin ‘most swinging drummer’ award), bassist James
Agg and Alex Steele on keyboards.

Doors open at 7.00pm for pre-concert drinks. Interval drinks will be served in the garth. Tickets £16 available from the Cathedral Gift Shop, 01452 768928 or the website: http://www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk/whats-on/concerts/jazz-dom-franks.php
