As many of you will know, Paul Lawrence, a stalwart of the Festival, died in December.  Paul built up huge collections of Jazz-related records, CDs, books, photographs and other memorabilia.  His wish was that the collections should be sold and the proceeds used to support the Upton Jazz Festival.

There are many hundreds of 78s, LPs and CDs, which will take some time to sort and catalogue.

However, his unique collection of published books on the history of jazz is ready for sale.  Before we offer the book collection in a public auction, supporters of the Festival will have the chance to buy it directly.

Attached is a list of the books with a photograph of the collection.  The books are mostly in pristine condition.

If you wish to own this rare piece of jazz history, please email your bid to the Festival Office [email protected] before March 31st.  To help you make your decision we have a preliminary estimate/valuation of between £140 and £170.

The collection will go to the highest bidder and money from the sale will help to ensure the Festival continues in future years.

Please note:

  • The entire collection will be sold as one lot; please do not offer to buy individual books.
  • The successful bidder will need to collect the boxes from Upton or pay for them to be couriered to their destination.
  • The books are currently stored in two cardboard boxes, which weigh about 30 Kg in total.
